Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What is the difference between a climate-controlled unit and a drive up?

A. A drive up unit means you can drive your car right up to the unit, it is located on the outside of the building and we do NOT monitor the heating and cooling of the unit.  A climate controlled is located inside the building and we control the heating and cooling of the units. Climate Controlled is ideal if you are storing anything that can get warped by humidity during the hot summer months such as wooden furniture, paintings, audio/stereo equipment etc.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage have 24 hour surveillance? And what other aspects make this facility safer than others?
A. Yes, we offer 24 hour surveillance. Each of our units is individually alarmed. Each tenant picks a 4-10 digit access code that is unique and matched to their specific unit. When entering the code in our gate it not only opens the gate but de-alarms your unit(s) ONLY. If your code has not been entered into the gate and your unit is opened or bumped a silent alarm will be sent to the computer in our office.

Q. What are your gate access hours?
A. 6am to 10pm seven days a week including holidays.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage offer 24 hour access?
A. No. Only with limited exceptions from the owner.

Q. What other fees will I be charged with when signing the contract?
A. There is a one time $10.00 administration fee, at Wake Forest. If a tenant is moving into our North Raleigh location it is a $25.00 administration fee.

Q. Do I have to buy one of your locks or can I provide my own?
A. You can purchase one from us for $10.00 or bring a lock of your choice. We offer a disc lock made by chalet that comes with three keys.

Q. Is this a binding contract?
A. No. The contract is on a month to month basis only.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage offer refunds?
A. No, if you pay in advance on a space we will not issue a refund.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage invoice?
A.  No, A-1 Personal Storage does not invoice individuals.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage prorate moving in? What does prorating mean?
A. Yes, A-1 Personal Storage prorates moving in which means we do not charge the tenant for the days the tenant is not using the space. Tenants will pay from the time they sign the contract through the end of the month. All tenant’s payments will begin thereafter on the 1st of the month. We do NOT prorate moving out.

Q. When is my payment due?
A. Payment is due on the 1st of every month. However, we give a grace period through the 5th. On the 6th we charge a late fee of 15% of the spaces rent.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage accept shipments for pharmaceutical representatives?
A. Yes, we do accept shipments they will be delivered in the front office. When the shipment arrives an A-1 Personal Storage representative will call to inform the pharmaceutical representative. A-1 Personal Storage is not responsible for placing the shipment into the unit.

Q. How much notice do I need to give when moving out?
A. Once everything is out of the unit stop by the office and let us know the unit is cleaned and swept, that’s it. When finished moving out, if the office is closed leave a message on the machine with the unit number along with your first and last name. An A-1 Personal Storage representative will call back the next business day to verify.

Q. Do I have to get insurance?
A. No. Please notify your home insurance agency to insure coverage.

Q.  Can I be set up on automatic credit card billing?
A. Yes, we draft payments on the first of the month. If the first falls on a day the office is closed we will draft upon the next business day.

Q. What happens to my automatic credit card draft when I move out?
A. The card number is deleted from our system instantly when moving out. For tenants set up on auto billing, please let us know ahead of time so we do not draft your rent.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage rent or lease the moving truck?
A. No. The moving truck is only available with our promotional specials.

Q. Who can gain access to my unit?
A. Only co-tenants that are given written permission, by the tenant, on the original contract will be able to gain access.

Q. Can I remove a co-tenant from my contract?
A. Yes.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage give out information regarding my unit?
A. No.

Q. What happens when I forget my access code?
A. If tenant is on site they must show ID. If a tenant calls in they will be asked to verify certain information which is written on the original contract.

Q. Does A-1 Personal Storage sell packing and/or shipping supplies?
A. Yes.
